These games allow you plenty of freedom to climb.

Climbing has come a long way in the video game world. The ability to climb didn't even exist in early titles. Then the likes of Tomb Raider came along, but the traversal in that game was hardly smooth. These days many titles give you the chance to scale and clamber up things.

In some games, the climbing consists of jumping atop waist-high boxes. Other titles, however, allow you to scale pretty much anything. And some of the time, you don't even need convenient ledges or windows for assistance. Instead, you can just walk up or jump to a wall and start your ascent. Here are a few examples of games that allow you to scale anything.

While Saints Row started out as a pretty grounded series, it has become wackier over time. The fourth game, in particular, ups the ante by giving the protagonist various superpowers. One of the powers is super speed, which makes you capable of challenging The Flash or Quicksilver to a race.

Naturally, those challenges can't actually happen in the game, but you can use your speed to traverse buildings. To do so, jump to the side of a structure, and sprint up it. Therefore, the power simultaneously makes both the best cars and planes obsolete.

Climbing has always been a big part of the Assassin's Creed series, as every protagonist has been able to ascend all sorts of buildings. Yet, the climbing mechanic has changed over the years.

In the early games, you had to look for things like window frames and ledges to grab. Assassin's Creed Origins, however, lets you hold onto pretty much anything. So, you can scale any structure in the game. And as the title is set in Ancient Egypt, that means you can climb several historical landmarks, including the Pyramid of Giza.

One of the most underrated open-world games of all time is The Saboteur. It's about an Irish man who attempts to free Paris from Nazi control during World War 2. The guy has a lot of skills that help him on his mission, including his brilliant parkour abilities.

As him, you can run around France, clambering up any building and jumping across rooftops. You do need things to grab while you're climbing. Thankfully, though, almost every structure conveniently has things for you to hold.

Conan Exiles is a survival game set in the world of Conan The Barbarian. You must avoid dying of starvation and dehydration while also trying not to get killed by other players or the dangerous creatures that roam the lands.

Your character is very customizable, yet they will always have incredible climbing skills. You can use these to scale structures as well as any mountains or cliffs you come across. You can also equip special gloves and boots to reduce the amount of stamina you lose when climbing.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is an action-adventure game inspired by Greek Mythology. It is set in a vibrant open-world, filled with beautiful structures and mountains. And you can climb pretty much everything.

The protagonist doesn't even need visible things to grab. You can just go up to any flat surface and scale it. Plus, you can make traversal easier with skills like the Climb Leap. The only limitation to your climbing is stamina, as ascending huge mountains tends to tire the main character out.

In a ranking of the best climbers in all media, Spider-Man would land somewhere near the top. After all, he has the movement skills of a spider. And his talents are perfectly replicated in the 2018 Marvel's Spider-Man.

In the game, you can stick to and climb any surface. Also, if you land on a building at the correct angle, you can even sprint up it. As the game takes place in New York City, there are all sorts of tall buildings for you to scale.

Breath of the Wild is often considered one of the best games in recent memory. There are a bunch of reasons for the title's critical acclaim, from its beautiful art style to its clever quests. The game also gets a lot of credit for the amount of freedom it gives you.

An example of that is the lack of restrictions on climbing. Link is able to scale anything, with only his stamina bar slowing him down. It was an interesting addition to the game as climbing hasn't always been a big feature in previous Zelda instalments, but it is a welcome change.

Throughout Shadow Of The Colossus, you travel across expansive worlds, looking for a Colossus to take down. Along the way, you often have to get past some large obstacles. Thankfully, the protagonist is an excellent climber, meaning you're able to scale just about anything as long as you have enough stamina.

Yet, your climbing abilities aren't only for traversal. These skills also come in handy when you're facing the Colossi themselves. After all, these things are huge - hence the name Colossus - so you have to scale their bodies to reach their weak points. Not many other games allow you to climb enemies.
